ALERT - Mobility Cold Caller in Tunbridge Wells

Mobility Cold Caller in Tunbridge Wells Area.

Category: General
Posted by: shaunk

Kent Trading Standards have received a report regarding an elderly consumer in the Tunbridge Wells area who received an unsolicited telephone call from a male stating that she was entitled to some vouchers.

The male was very persuasive and the consumer eventually reluctantly agreed to let him visit later that day to drop the “vouchers” off to her.

The male turned up at the property. The consumer said that she was just on her way out but the male asked if he could come in and sit down for a minute. The consumer felt obliged and let him in.

The male then started to try and sell mobility products to the consumer.

Fortunately a neighbour called by and seeing the consumers discomfort asked the male to leave.

A scruffy yellow van was seen in the area at the time and may be linked to the incident.

Kent Trading Standards warn consumers to be very wary of anyone cold calling and requesting to visit your home. If you are in any doubt at all end the call and if you are not expecting a visitor use the door chain, door viewer or window to check who it is.

Kent Trading Standards has produced an A5 sized notice for people to clearly display in windows, doors or porches of their home to deter traders who cold-call.

The notice contains a warning to those traders who ignore it, and those who do not leave your property, that they may well be committing a criminal offence. On the reverse is information about dealing with cold-callers and details of our good trader scheme, Buy with Confidence.

Please download the notice using the link below to use and please forward to any friends, relatives or neighbours.
